Mike began his career in 1981 as a business developer at Barclays Bank. Two years later, he joined a financial advisory business in Port Elizabeth, gaining extensive experience in the bond and money market environments. The NFB Group was incorporated in 1985 with Mike as a founding partner. Over the last three decades, he has helped thrust the company to the forefront of the financial services markets, where the Group has been consistently regarded as one of the country’s leading investment and advisory businesses. Mike is an avid sportsman and enjoys spending his free time cycling and climbing mountains, having completed climbs on Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Elbrus. He has three boys and a loving wife Lisa.
William joined NFB in 2015 and has key experience in improving control environments in the financial services industry along with a passion for improving business processes to unlock synergies and efficiency between people and business units. William completed his BCom Honours Financial Accounting at the University of Pretoria in 2009 and qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte in 2012. Before joining NFB, William was part of the Barclays Africa Group, Rest of Africa Financial Control team overseeing the financial control environment of the regions outside South Africa. William is a keen tennis player as well as runner, having completed back to back comrades marathons in 2015 and 2016.
BACC, HIGHER DIPLOMA IN TAX LAW, POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN FINANCIAL PLANNING, CA (SA)
Philip joined NFB in 1994 as financial director. Beyond his duties as a financial director, he is involved in the advisory business and also runs a successful estates division within NFB, which includes drafting new wills, updating existing wills, Trust Deed reviews and executorships. Prior to joining the business, Philip served as an audit partner for 10 years at Goldberg Jaffe (now Mazars Inc.). Philip is an avid academic and completed a postgraduate diploma in financial planning from the University of the Free State in 2007. That same year, he was honoured with the Top Candidate of the Year award at a ceremony hosted by the Financial Planning Institute. He is a keen cyclist and has a number of Argus and 94.7 Cycle Challenges under his belt.
Laurie joined NFB in 1993 as a bond and currency trader. He is passionate about retirement planning and has enjoyed extensive media exposure discussing his views on CNBC Africa as well as in numerous written and digital publications. Prior to joining the business, Laurie served as an articled clerk and auditor at Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC). In 1988, Laurie completed a BCom degree in accounting from the University of Port Elizabeth (now Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University). Laurie is a family man with four children. He is a keen sportsman and enjoys supporting his children’s various sporting activities.
BCOM, POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN FINANCIAL PLANNING
Grant joined NFB in 2001 and has key expertise in private wealth management. Appointed to the company’s board in 2008, his depth and breadth of experience and enthusiasm for financial planning continues to add value to the business and his substantial client base. In 2003, Grant completed a BCom (Hons) degree in economics from the University of South Africa. He also has a postgraduate diploma in financial planning from the University of the Free State. Grant is a keen cyclist, actively participating in a number of long distance races including joBerg2c and Sani2c.
MBA, BCOM (HONS), ADVANCED POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN FINANCIAL PLANNING
Andrew joined NFB in 2004 as a financial advisor and has developed a client base primarily focused on individual investors. Four years later, he was appointed to the company’s executive board. Andrew completed a BCom degree in marketing at the Rand Afrikaans University in 2002 (now University of Johannesburg), and received an Honours degree (cum laude) in investment management a year later. He has also completed a postgraduate diploma in financial planning (PDFP) from the University of the Free State and an Advanced PDFP in which he was honoured with the Top Student award. In 2011, he completed an MBA (cum laude) through the Gordon Institute of Business Science. Andrew is an avid cyclist and competitive mountain biker, having competed in multiple stage races such as the Cape Epic and Cape Pioneer Trek. He also qualified for the Elite World Marathon Championships in 2014.
BCOM (HONS), ADVANCED POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN FINANCIAL PLANNING
With more than 12 years’ experience in the financial services industry, Stephen is a prominent wealth manager to individuals, trusts and corporates within NFB’s advisory business. He initially joined NFB Asset Management in 2003 and found his passion for financial advice four years later. To further enhance his role in financial planning, Stephen obtained his postgraduate diploma in financial planning from the University of the Free State in 2008, followed by an advanced postgraduate diploma in financial planning law in 2009. As a result of his discipline, commitment to knowledge building and his relentless endeavour to grow his clients’ wealth, Stephen was appointed to NFB’s board in 2013. In addition to his above qualifications, Stephen has a BCom degree in financial management and a BCom (Hons) degree in investment management from Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg). He is married with two young children. He enjoys the bush and scuba diving, having completed his PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.
